Rerai Umntwana is a parenting app designed for parents, caregivers, and service providers in Zimbabwe. It is a Ministry of Health and Child Care app, supported by UNICEF Zimbabwe with funding from the Government of Japan.

Rerai Umntwana was developed to respond to the unique needs and interests of parents and caregivers in Zimbabwe. Many parents face the challenges of limited access to reliable, evidence-based information on children's nutrition, health and development. The app aims to bridge this gap by offering parents and caregivers of young children practical, culturally-relevant advice, and tools on nutrition, health, child development and parenting.

Aligned with national Health policies and integrated programs, Rerai Umntwana was designed to be inclusive and accessible. In addition, it features simple visual and mobile-friendly parenting content.

Every child needs nurturing, good nutrition, good health and a stimulating and safe environment to develop to their full potential. To raise thriving children, parents need support.

The free app developed by The Ministry of Health and Children, UNICEF Zimbabwe, and national partners, is designed to lend a helping hand to parents, with easy parenting tips on topics like breastfeeding, baby weaning, learning, playing and toys, child protection and much more. Rerai Umntwana provides parents with information based on studies and health and childcare professionals' years of expertise. Set of interactive tools help parents track their child's development and health checkups.

How does Rerai Umntwana help parents raise thriving children?

The Rerai Umntwana app has a huge range of helpful features empowering parents to make the right decisions when it comes to the care and development of their child. Encouraging parents to engage daily with suggested articles and games that will help their little ones hit those key development milestones while growing healthy and happy.

Suggested Daily Reads

Every day the app will suggest a daily game and an article from a rich library of parenting advice written by experts, covering a large range of topics available in the app, such as baby weaning and early learning. All advice can be quickly saved as favorites and shared with other parents or friends.

Parenting tips for playing with your children

Rerai Umntwana offers plenty of ideas on how to engage in playful interaction with children through games that will stimulate learning and development. Parents will be able to choose games that support the development of motor and socio-emotional skills, language, communication and cognition.

Child development tracker

This tool is easy-to-use and helps parents track their child’s progress in reaching the milestones recommended for his/her age. It will assist parents on how to support development through play.

Child’s vaccinations

A handy vaccination record is available for parents to easily track and record your child’s vaccinations.

Child’s health check-up

The health check-up tool allows parents to note down information from their child’s doctor visits, as well as setting reminders for doctor’s appointments.

Child’s growth tracker

This tool allows parents to track their child’s measurements such as height and weight.
